About Me

Cameron Cooper

My name is Cameron Cooper, and this is my short little life story! I was born in Sacramento California at Sutter Hospital in South Sacramento. I was born and raised in Elk Grove by two parents Jon and Kathy Cooper. Jon is a small business owner in Sacramento and owns and I.T. company called Networking Solutions. Kathy is an elementary school teacher in the Elk Grove Unified School District and currently works at Florence Markofer Elementary. I have two brothers, Conner and Nelson, they are considered my half-brothers, but I do not consider them half. Connor is thirty, eleven years older than me, graduated from Sac State in 2012 with a major in Film. Nelson is twenty-eight, nine years older than me, and he works at Mercantile Saloon “the Merc”.

From ages one to four my hobbies consisted of playing with nerf guns and swords to wrestling my brothers and my dad. I think this was due to the shows I would watch when I was little such as: Spiderman, Power-Rangers, Teenage-Mutant Ninja Turtles. To paint you a picture of how crazy and wild I was, my brother and I were playing with swords, fake plastic swords, don’t worry, in the yard and let’s say things got a little out of control and I split my bothers lip open and he had to get stitches.

In elementary school my parents soon found out that they have to get me moving in other ways besides giving my brothers stitches so they signed me up for some sports teams. I tried soccer and it was too much running, I tired baseball and it was too slow and then in the second grade I tried football and that’s when something clicked. Football was fun for me because not only was I constantly moving and felt involved, but I had coaches who were encouraging and who taught me how to play the game right. From then on football became my life and I began watching football on Sundays and all my friends that I spent the majority with were my teammates. Later in elementary school I was also exposed to the game of volleyball. Just like football the reason I really found a passion for it was because I had coaches who were passionate about the game and wanted others to be passionate about it AND know how to play it right.

In high school these sports continued to be a part of my life and it really consumed most of my time and energy and most of my friends continued to be people who played those sports. One obstacle was trying to fit in with the high school crowd especially being someone was who played volleyball, stereotypically a girl sport, and I was mocked up until my senior year for it. However, I would say this obstacle was a huge blessing because I didn’t listen to the opinions of other people but stuck to myself and who I was, and I would say this taught me not to go with the flow.

Another obstacle I had in high school were injuries, especially during my senior year. During my last year of high school and I had dreams to play football in college, and I knew I have the determination to do so. Although I had the work ethic, I dislocated my kneecap three different occasions within the span of that year and decided that I wouldn’t further my football future and so plans had to change, as a result I applied for a summer job.

That summer job ended up being at Hume Lake Christian Camp, located in Sequoia National Park where I really got to deepen my relationship with Jesus and then I decided to do a discipleship program through this same camp called Joshua Wilderness Institute. During this program I got the opportunity to take several different biblical study classes and got a solid foundation of my faith. Also, during this program I got the opportunity to go to Mexico, where we helped out at an orphanage, and Dominican Republic, where we served at a school and taught elementary school kids introductory English. Then at the end of the year we had to opportunity to go to Israel, for a study tour for two weeks.

After a year of adventure and deepen of my faith, I am now back in Sacramento going to Sacramento City College, DUHHH, and I currently work at Pachamama coffee downtown, and I love to rock climb, hike, and camp. So if you love coffee and the outdoors LETS HANG!
