To Jack’s Blog: “What is Art?”
Honestly crazy how art can be so powerful and how we can use to not only to relate to people but possible a tool for healing. I know so often people will run to outlets that can lead to a slippery slope, but I feel like art can be a positive tool for people to express how they really feel! I think a great biblical example of this is in the Psalms with David! Pouring out his heart to God and I think he reassures we can do the same!

Love what you had to say about the physical world! What a cool perspective about seeing the “different worlds” in our own physical world. Also made me stop and appreciate what I do have in the physical world here in Sacramento and the way the physical world might be for some people in different parts of the world.

I totally see your point in the movie! When the characters would feel things like chairs and other “physical objects” that it was simply their imagination. Pretty interesting how Plato thinks that are doing the same thing.

I like your point about art! I do think it is fascinating how art can stretch us and open up new doors of experience. This last semester I took an Art 300 class and it was interesting to be able to understand the new perspectives or experiences that the artist had gone through or their interpretation of a world event.

How unique! This was so intriguing when we were in class and you shared, although this was very well done and prepared I am still confused about how all people can relate to this? Is this because everyone will experience death but in different ways of is it the fact that we have all morned and have become sad and depressed due to the death of someone we know and care for?

Totally! But I think an even more interesting thing to think about is when you have a particular food, smell, and or certain spice that almost takes you back to either a memory or reminds you of someone. For example, when I have GOOOD pastor (rotated pork if you don’t know look it up) .It reminds me of the fun time I had in Mexico with friends last fall.

Well Done! I totally agree with your point on the fact that portraits and some art do not succeed at what Tolstoy defines as good art. One question I think of is “why would an artist not want to provoke feeling or motivate someone to do something?” I feel like all artist brings a unique talent to the table whether through music, painting, movies, etc. and if an artist has such a unique talent why wouldn’t they want to use this uniqueness to make an impact on society?

Dude very interesting analysis! It’s very interesting that you think that we have to have deep understanding or analysis, and I agree to an extent. Yes when we vote, when we find the girl of our dreams those should take deep analysis. However when I eat a GOOD chocolate chip cookie I don’t sit in deep analysis or ponder for hours on whether its good, I mean I could, but really I taste it and if its soft and sweet, I think its good! Great Blog got me thinking for sure!

First off thank you so much for the information about memory…very fascinating! Although I wouldn’t say that Leonard would see his past life as habit, but I think he would see it as something lost that would never be returned. I feel as if one of the reason he could have been wanting to keeping “killing John G.” was so he wouldn’t have to let go to the memories he once had.

Mouakong! Overall great presentation I though this was so clever and I will definitely have to hit up this restaurant. I would definitely agree that Tolstoy would see this as art, I Mean who would not its beautiful piece of food idk if I would even want to eat it.

Erica great insight! I really thought you did an awesome job breaking down the first meditation of Descartes. This dude definitely had a lot of time on his hands if he had this much to think about. Asking these question I believe are important though.

Really insightful thoughts! You know your example make me think of the whole idea of nature vs. nurture. In my psychology class we discussed are we the way we are because of our parents and the environment we grew up in or are we just naturally through genes. This would be interesting to see what Hume would have to say about that concept. Anyways great points!

Honestly really agree with all your points great job! I also thought it was so sad that he couldn’t move past his wife’s death, even if he wanted to. Without being able to make new memories he would also live with the fact that he wife is dead. 😢
To Nanda’s Blog: “FREEDOM OF THE WILL AND THE CONCEPT OF A PERSON”
Great explanation! I thought you broke down that excerpt very well! when Frankfurt talks about our “will” to do thing it reminds me of the idea of self-control. Would be interesting to find out that Frankfurt’s perspective on self control ties into “the will” of man! Anyways thanks for your contribution!

First off! Great job breaking down Descartes claim into a clear and simplistic way! Honestly it was really hard for me to track with Descartes so applause to you! Also, I really liked how you included that Descartes was not trying to prove anything but he was just experimenting. Honestly if this wasnt mentioned by him I think we would consider Descartes pretty crazy. However, this statement allows us to relate on the fact that all of us have times in our lives when we tend to be curious about the world around us. Anyways Thanks!
